Recommendations from Mexican Eater #1 - Brian:
- Looking for highfalutin fancy place? Salt and Lime Cabo Grill, 6006 Falls of Neuse Rd.
- Looking for a more casual place, but with lots of salsas? Las Margaritas, 7431 Six Forks Rd.
- Looking for good quantity? Las Marias Tacos y Papusas, 1600 Ronald Dr.
- Looking for a family style for a whole table? San Jose and Sons, 327 W. Davie St. (Just tip here - go ahead and park in the recommended parking lot out front and not on the street, or you will get a parking ticket!)
- San Jose used to feature live music and dancing on random days that you wouldn't know about until you showed up, but now you can enjoy your meal without having someone dirty dancing all up on you. That's a plus in my book.
- If you are a champion of spicy food in cute taco form, check out Gonza Tacos y Tequila, 7713 Lead Mine Rd. - they get an A+ in book. But if you fear spice, definitely ask your waitress if the tacos you are ordering are spicy!
- Go to Chuys at 4020 Market at North Hills St.- but don't be afraid to go off-menu. The pros always order the bowls off-menu. Go ahead and load up the bowls on their freshly made tortillas. Stop by the salsa bar in the trunk.
- You may want to avoid the place if you are not into loud mariachi bands, but if you are into that sort of thing (and I definitely am!), the ACP here is excellent.
Recommendations from Mexican Eater #3 - Jenny:
- Flying Burrito, 4800 Grove Barton Rd. -- this place has hands down the best ACP. Excellent proportions of rice to chicken to cheese. I live by there and dream about going every single day I pass by.
- On the Border, 1102 Walnut St., Cary -- This is the only place I deviate from my usual ACP order. I recommend the Chicken Tinga Enchiladas with sour cream sauce.
- La Fogata BRAVA, 3351 Cyprese Plantation -- They took over an On the Border and did a great job.
Recommendations from Mexican Eater #4 - Jessi:
- La Carreta, 1028 Oberlin Rd. - One of my favorite places to get ACP - excellent cheese to rice to chicken ratio.
- Dos Taquitos, 6101 Glenwood Ave - I mean, I was late getting here to meet up with the crew because I couldn't find the door, but thankfully, I found may way inside before the rest of the Mexican Eaters ate all of the chips and salsa.
- XOCO Mexican Bar & Grill, 410 Glenwood Ave - A train brings you your chips throughout the meal - what's not to love about that?! The queso here had a kick to, but if you don't mind spice, it is a definite must-order.
Honorable Mention:
- Los Tres Megeyes - They were the OG to this challenge. They have multiple locations throughout the area and always have friendly staff.
